Songs of the Year - Pt. 1

I do one of these for fun every year, so I thought it might be nice to post about each track here. You know, for posterity or something. :| ;)
This is the first half, about 47 mins, and the second should follow within the week.
Podcast available on soundcloud here.
Or as mp3 here.
0:00 My Country - Tune Yards (W H O K I L L)
Tune Yards deservedly hit it big this year with their crowd pleasers. The opening track of the mix points towards this decade's predilection for atypical rhythms and 'cut-up' post-Laptop sounds.
3:40 Still Sound - Toro Y Moi (Underneath the Pine)
A blissful track from chillwave pioneer.
8:09 Bloom (live) - Radiohead (The King of Limbs: From the Basement)
This album divided people. It was a difficult followup to their most accessible album since The Bends, but I loved it. However the album really came alive reproduced live
14:05 The Cascades - Fleet Foxes (Helplessness Blues)
Something relaxed from Fleet Foxes' more comfortable and assured follow-up album.
16:12 Will Do - TV On The Radio (Nine Types of Light)
Not my favourite TVotR album, but this song highlights what they do best: great hooks and great arrangements.
19:58 Amanaemonesia - Chairlift (Something)
Possibly my favourite track and video of the year, sheer craziness. A weird and wonderful track that feels like it came from a past that just never existed, and probably practiced witchcraft. This album has just been released late January so check it out!
25:00 The Bay - Metronomy (The English Riveria)
A delicious slice of 80's indebted pop-electronica. Strong beat, great hooks and fantastic slap bass throughout.
29:50 Kaputt - Destroyer (Kaputt)
A sprawling, chilled song from Destroyer featuring plenty sax and great guitar sounds. Not a million miles from Toro Y Moi and completely at odds with most of the rest of the album, but definitely the stand out for me. Brilliant video as well.
35:50 Polish Girl - Neon Indian (Era Extraña)
Neon Indian moved out of Animal Collective's shadow this year with a great collaboration with The Flaming Lips and this fantastic album. Brilliant sound.
40:17 Wild Man - Kate Bush (50 Words for Snow)
50 Words for Snow was very welcome after the slightly disappointing Director's Cut. Each track tended to melt into each other but subsequent listens revealed new depths and qualities. This was especially true of my highlight Wild Man.
