Harry Partch - Beck

I cannot believe I missed this song when it was released last year:
insane, inspired, and hilarious.

How Beck came to create this deserves some explanation. Last year Radiohead released a charity single, Harry Patch, a soppy affair dedicated to the last British survivor of the great war. Fiery Furnaces’ Matthew Friedberger put his foot in it, by lambasting Radiohead for arbitrarily associating themselves with the avant-garde composerHarry Partch. The internet laughed.

Retracting his comments, he tried to keep a cool demeanour and announced he would have much preferred to insult Beck but is too afraid of Scientologists. Uh-oh. A couple weeks later Beck replied with this masterpiece employing Partch's 43 tone scale, and instantly became the coolest person in music. It's actually a lot of fun in its own right!
